Hi there! Loving Repper - thank you SO much for creating this amazing tool.
Ok here’s a suggestion that I think is easy and would help a ton: can you add a border around the selected design you are currently working in on the left sidebar? This would make it so much easier when you click to the next one. It’s a small thing, but would prevent erroneous clicks. I’ve attached a suggested mock-up and would be happy with any color . Thanks!
Note that when you click a saved design and start editing, you are not editing that saved design. The saved design will stay as is (so you don’t lose it accidentally!) and the editor will change, so the saved design and the editor are no longer the same.
What would you, as a user, expect to happen? Keep the selection, even as you change the design in the editor? Or remove the selection once you start changing?
Thanks for mentioning this. This is much better behavior than what I thought - I thought if I changed it, then it would change my snap (but I just wasn’t thinking it through). That’s awesome and the way it should be which allows to save snaps different ways, especially if you need to make a small adjustment to a design. The border would still be helpful though.
Also - one thing to note @Wouter - the rotation is not being preserved when exporting the tiles. I am having to rotate them again once they are downloaded. The snap shows it rotated, but when you download the tiles they are not still rotated (maybe only happening with bulk, but I think both individual and bulk). Thanks!
If you need to make small adjustments to a saved design, I could imagine you want to replace the snapshot rather than create a new one. So maybe we should add an explicit option for that. The question is how long the “replace current snapshot” option should be shown, as you could get very far removed from it quickly by changing the selection.
You are right, rotation is not preserved in single tile, and that’s intentionally! When you switch to tile preview, you’ll see it’s never rotated. That’s because a tile needs to be repeatable as a block (for example, by your print-on-demand service). Rotating the pattern will make the tile no longer tileable as horizontal and vertical blocks. If you doubt me, export a pattern as a surface with 1x1 repeat (unlock that section to set each repeat exactly). Export it and the resulting “1x1 tile” is not repeatable.
Sorry, it’s not mathematically possible What you can do, is see if the software or service you use to repeat that tile, as a rotation option to rotate the surface of tiles. If not, export the pattern in Repper as a surface, so you can export it with rotation.
